Avoid the Cover Up – Choosing Products for Healthy Skin

There is a growing problem in the skin care and cosmetics industries. This problem is the prevalence of products that are designed to cover up skin problems rather than going to the source and repairing them. It wouldn’t be such a problem if they were revealed for what they are – temporary solutions. The problem is that many consumers are just uneducated enough to feel that if it makes you look better it is actually helping your skin and that is not necessarily the case.

Many of these products are really no better than cosmetic concealers. They simply cover up the spots you want to hide. They aren’t miraculously repairing them in the process. This is why, at the end of the day, when you wash your face, the benefits go away and the wrinkles remain. Education is the key. You need to educate yourself about the different products that are available, what they do, and what you need.

If anti aging is your goal with skin care products you probably want to use a combination of products that collectively accomplish these three things:

1)    Prevent new damage from happening to the skin. These products will generally have a strong antioxidant presence as well as some pretty hefty SPF protection. The sun is the leading cause of damage in the skin. Blocking the sun should be one of the primary purposes of all preventative products.

2)    Nourish. The main problem with skin damage is that the skin, as we age, isn’t getting the proper nutrition that is needed to produce things like collagen and other substances that allow the skin to repair itself like it did when we were younger. Find products that boost collagen production, feed the skin important vitamins, and help it attract and lock in vital moisture. Give your skin the nourishment it needs by researching the products you are using and finding natural ingredients that are meant to provide essential ingredients for healthier skin.

3)    Repair. At the end of the day, wrinkles and other visible signs of aging are simply damaged skin. You must find products that are going to repair this damage if you hope to have the youthful look of yesterday. Some products can help you imitate the glow of youth but only repairing the damage of time, lifestyle, and sun exposure will bring that glow back to your skin without the aid of some pretty hefty products. Repairing the damage is the best course of action for true anti aging efforts.

You are free to use the products that provide an illusion of younger skin and may sincerely want to do so while you are using the other skin care products to rebuild, repair, and protect the skin against further damage in the future. The added benefit of looking younger while you are taking active steps to have skin that genuinely is younger than its years is a great combination.
