Skin Care for Dry Skin
Do you suffer from dry skin? This is one of the common culprits when it comes to aging skin and one that is often overlooked or chalked up to the way of the world or the bane of winter. Taking the time and making the effort to repair your dry skin today can minimize the damage that will be left behind by your dry skin when all is said and done. Your skin does so much to protect your body from harm. Taking care of your dry skin now is such a small way of rewarding your skin for its hard work.
So, what can you do to help heal your dry skin?
1) Avoid those long hot showers that seem so tempting. You heard right. While the winter months are the prime contributors to dry skin and a long hot shower may seem like the perfect solution, it is anything but. The hot water only serves to rob your skin of the moisture that is so important to keep. The solution is to take lukewarm showers which may be far less comfortable or comforting but are much better for the sake of your skin. You should also apply moisturizer quickly after getting out of the shower in order to lock that moisture in.
2) Eliminate harsh cleansers from your skin care arsenal. You want the products that are used on your skin to be as gentle and non-irritating as possible. For the best results choose all natural products that lack the harsh chemicals you will find in most popular store brands of skin care products.
3) Bring home a humidifier. Dry skin is often the result of dry air. Bring a little moisture back into the home with a humidifier and your skin will drink in the rewards. If you are on a limited budget you can try setting a pot of hot water on the radiator or heating it on the stove and allowing it to evaporate adding moisture to the air.
4) Find moisturizing products that contain lactic acid. Lactic acid is one of the few ingredients that will actually work to draw moisture in rather than only working to prevent moisture from escaping and is an excellent choice for those who suffer with dry skin during the winter months, or any other time of the year for that matter.
5) Find products that are made for the body rather than those that are made specifically for the face to treat the body. You will want to continue using facial moisturizers for the sensitive skin of the face but the body can handle a little more “grease” than the face. Petroleum jelly like Vaseline remains one of the best products on the market for fighting dry skin though many women find it unappealing.
Proper skin care can have you living dry skin free in no time. Are you willing to take the steps necessary to eliminate dry skin from forcing you to face the damage that Old Man Winter leaves behind year after year?
